Sabrina Lebreton on How Pentair is Making Pools Smarter, Greener, and Truly European

From intelligent automation to sustainable innovation, Pentair is shaping the future of swimming pools across Europe.

A Smarter, Greener Pool Industry
The swimming pool industry is evolving rapidly, balancing eco-responsibility with effortless enjoyment. Today’s pool owners expect more than ever. Sabrina Lebreton, Pentair’s Strategic Marketing Manager for Europe, shares her vision for a market that is smarter, greener, and fully future-focused.

Innovation Meets Sustainability
For Pentair, the biggest challenge and opportunity in the sector is the environmental shift. “Adopting stronger eco-responsible practices, both in pool construction and renovation, offers real hope for the future,” says Lebreton. Yet some trends are still underestimated, such as water loss in basements and pool chemical management. Inefficient backwashing and incorrect chemical dosing can waste water and products. “Applying the right amount at the right time is more efficient and reduces waste. Automation is key and should be further developed.”

This focus on optimized water and chemical management drives Pentair’s innovation. One example is the IntelliFlo3 VSF pump, a patented intelligent pump that adjusts flow for maximum energy efficiency. Automation and digitalization are not just about convenience; they are about responsibility. Lebreton emphasizes the role of the younger generation:

There is so much potential in automation, predictive maintenance, and digital services. Young professionals will bring the digital expertise the industry needs.

European Quality and Market Challenges
While sustainable pools hold great promise, price competition from new international players is a challenge. Pentair’s strategy is clear: stand out through quality, durability, and proximity. European manufacturing ensures top-tier quality while local sales teams and stock availability guarantee responsive customer support. This premium approach is particularly relevant in markets like Germany, where demand for technological and innovative solutions is high and budgets can accommodate them.

Evolving Customer Expectations
Customer expectations have changed. Five years ago, price was often the deciding factor. Today, customers are informed, demanding, and attentive to durability and repairability. Pool renovation and maintenance services are growing, and demographics play a role: retirees value safety and attention to detail, while working professionals seek digitalized products that save time. With well-informed customers browsing online, the role of sales teams has shifted. “Supporting professionals is essential,” Lebreton stresses. At Pentair, teams act as advisors and educators first, helping clients identify real needs and select the right products. Customers are encouraged to explore manufacturer websites to deepen their knowledge.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Pools
Pentair is committed to making pools a place of well-being and enjoyment without compromising the environment. With energy-efficient filtration, automated pool management, and European-made quality, the company positions itself as a leader in sustainable pools in Europe. The German market, in particular, is a focus. Lebreton notes Pentair’s excitement to reconnect with Germany at the Aquanale trade show, a market that is growing, tech-savvy, and increasingly eco-conscious.
