AngelEye: underwater safety from Bolzano to the world

In this interview conducted at ForumPiscine 2026, Riccardo Casadei, founder of AngelEye – the provider of drowning detection systems enhanced by artificial intelligence – summarizes the markets covered by the company and the potential opportunities opening up in Italy.

When and where was AngelEye founded?

AngelEye has been active for twenty years, we were the first to have the idea of inserting underwater cameras for safety in swimming pools, offering true video surveillance that is now integrated with artificial intelligence of our own production. The headquarters is located in Bolzano, a nerve center that has allowed us, thanks primarily to knowledge of the German language, to expand rapidly towards the northern countries. Today we operate all over the world: we have, among others, a distributor in France, one in Germany, one in Switzerland, one in Australia and in Saudi Arabia, and soon in the northern United States.

Do you foresee an expansion in Italy, too?

We are recently approaching the Italian market, in conjunction with the birth of the Framework Law for safety in swimming pools, where a technological system like ours will be required, and therefore we could establish a new standard. On the safety front, the world of swimming pools is still strongly backward. Let’s take a car, for example: today it is equipped with countless sensors, as well as the airbag, ABS, front and rear cameras, and this is because it is necessary to guarantee a certain safety to those who drive. In the swimming pool, on the contrary, the minimum equipment does not include any tool, with the consequence that the risk remains excessive.

What is the competitive advantage of your safety system? Which customers do you address?

Our aerial and underwater cameras manage to identify any danger in about 10 seconds, a time that allows the lifeguard of a public swimming pool or the receptionist of a hotel to receive a visual and sound alarm – for example on a smartwatch, computer, tablet, telephone – that highlights a dangerous situation, also indicating the exact location. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the cameras identify any type of anomaly, for example a body that is no longer able to stay afloat: this literally allows to save lives. It is also a tool free of constraints regarding the immersion of underwater or aerial cameras, which are in fact all patented and ISO certified. Ours is a highly diversifiable business, which caters to anyone who cares about safety: in Europe, we serve public swimming pools and swimming pools of great importance, such as those of prestigious hotels, especially in London. We therefore hope that in Italy too, the concrete intention to safeguard users of the facilities, both public and private, will take hold.
