Floating Above the Lake

WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
Overlooking Lake Traunsee in Upper Austria, AQA Steel designed a striking stainless-steel infinity pool for an entrepreneurial family who built a contemporary concrete home on a hillside plot. The single-piece pool sits directly beside the house’s glass façade, continuing its architectural line and minimalistic precision.
Measuring 6.5 meters in length and 3.3 meters in width, the pool was tailor-made for the narrow space between the retaining wall and the house. Its defining feature, however, is its elevated presence: the overflow pool rises half a meter above the terrace level, creating a visual spectacle where the water gently cascades down and the shimmering surface mirrors the lake beyond.
The lowered overflow channel enhances the pool’s sculptural quality, giving it a serene, monolithic appearance. Heated and fully automated for cleaning, the pool can be entered comfortably via the raised edge or a side ladder. On the house side, the roller cover is neatly concealed beneath a bench that doubles as a seating element. Whether standing, sitting, or swimming, residents can enjoy uninterrupted lake views — beautifully accentuated at dusk by the underwater lighting.

DESIGN DETAIL
The combination of modern architecture and the elegant stainless-steel infinity pool creates a harmonious yet understated visual unity, allowing the mint-green outdoor seating group to stand out as a refreshing color accent.
