Solar Retrofit Intelligence with POLYSOLAR SPLIT

New control system integrates existing PV installations with heat pump operation to optimise self-consumption and pool heating efficiency

POLYTROPIC has launched POLYSOLAR SPLIT, a retrofit solution designed to extend its solar energy management capabilities to existing photovoltaic installations used in residential pool heating systems.

The new system targets pool owners who already operate PV systems and are looking to improve energy efficiency and self-consumption without modifying their existing electrical setup.

Retrofit integration for existing PV systems

POLYSOLAR SPLIT is based on a dedicated control box installed alongside an existing photovoltaic system. The solution is compatible with installations up to 9 kWp and measures real-time solar production directly at the source.

This data is then transmitted to POLYTROPIC’s connected heat pump range, enabling dynamic adjustment of operating parameters based on available solar energy.

Using the company’s patented POLYSOLAR control logic, the heat pump modulates compressor frequency in real time, aligning energy consumption with PV production and prioritising renewable energy use over grid electricity.

Dynamic energy allocation and thermal storage

When the pool reaches the desired temperature, surplus solar energy can be redirected to other loads such as pool house equipment or selected household consumers.

The system also allows users to maintain heat pump operation beyond the set temperature threshold, effectively transforming the pool basin into a thermal energy storage buffer. This enables excess solar production to be stored as heat and released later when solar input decreases.

Users can configure both minimum and maximum temperature setpoints, providing flexible control over comfort levels and energy optimisation strategies.

According to POLYTROPIC, the POLYSOLAR Energy System can deliver up to 25% higher efficiency compared to a standard heat pump connected to a photovoltaic installation without intelligent energy coordination.

Simplified retrofit installation

The POLYSOLAR SPLIT system has been designed for straightforward integration into existing installations. The process includes installation of the SPLIT control box near the PV system, placement of a current clamp on the power line between the PV installation and the home, and connection to the POLYTROPIC cloud platform via Wi-Fi.

The heat pump then receives operating instructions via Wi-Fi or 4G connectivity, enabling automatic application of POLYSOLAR energy management principles.

The retrofit approach allows installers to upgrade existing PV-equipped pool systems without requiring structural changes to the original photovoltaic installation.

Increasing PV utilisation in pool applications

The introduction of POLYSOLAR SPLIT reflects a broader industry trend toward intelligent energy management and increased photovoltaic self-consumption in residential pool applications.

By directly linking solar production data with heat pump operation, POLYTROPIC aims to improve system efficiency while maximising the use of locally generated renewable energy.

The solution is positioned as a step toward more autonomous, data-driven pool heating systems that respond in real time to available energy resources.
