A Study in Contrast

WHAT MAKES THIS SAUNA SPECIAL

Pumpen Veit equipped the wellness area of a private residence in Saxony with an exclusive sauna duo consisting of a Finnish sauna and a steam bath. Positioned side by side, the two cabins are visually connected through seamless wall and ceiling transitions, creating the impression that they are recessed into architectural niches. This design approach results in a calm, cohesive appearance that is further enhanced by the marble-look porcelain stoneware tiles used on the floors and selected wall surfaces.

These same materials continue into the adjacent yet spatially separate swimming hall, establishing a strong visual connection between the different wellness areas. Another linking element is the panoramic window integrated into the wall of the Finnish sauna, allowing its contemporary interior to remain visible even while swimming. The sauna cabin was constructed using a modular system and fitted with a full-height smoked-glass façade, incorporating a floor-to-ceiling entrance door at its centre. Black door fittings provide a refined detail, blending discreetly into the elegant overall design.

For rapid and intensive heat therapy, two infrared seating positions have been integrated into the sauna. Beside them, indirect LED lighting casts a warm glow upwards, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The slightly narrower steam bath features the same smoked-glass frontage, black fittings and LED lighting. Its humid climate is generated by a high-quality steam generator with integrated aroma infusion.

Both cabins are equipped with audio speakers for musical accompaniment, while all technical functions are conveniently controlled via touchscreen displays.

DESIGN DETAIL

The interplay between light and dark contrasts was carried through this wellness area down to the finest details. As a result, the black touchscreen control panels of the sauna system stand out strikingly against the sandstone-coloured wall cladding, emphasising both their functional role and their contribution to the overall design concept.
