WHAT MAKES THIS SAUNA SPECIAL
Located within the exclusive health club of the Mayfair Park Residences in London, designed by Jouin Manku Studio, this bespoke sauna duo was custom-made by the Italian manufacturer Effe. It forms part of an approximately 1,000-square-metre wellness facility housed within a meticulously restored historic building overlooking Hyde Park, where Georgian architectural elements are combined with a contemporary, organic interior design concept.
For the club’s traditional Finnish sauna, Effe developed a customised version of its “Body Love S” model, precisely tailored to meet the project’s demanding functional and aesthetic requirements. The construction features a refined aluminium frame system combined with large panels of tempered glass, creating a sense of transparency and visual lightness. Inside, ceramic porcelain stoneware surfaces are paired with heat-treated timber, giving the sauna an elegant and tranquil character while integrating it seamlessly into the luxurious design language of the health club.
A similarly customised version of the “Body Love H” steam room was created opposite the sauna. Here too, slender aluminium frames and expansive glass surfaces establish a cohesive visual identity between the two cabins. In the steam room, however, the ceiling is also clad in porcelain stoneware, while the benches are crafted from Corian.
The carefully selected materials not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of both cabins but also support hygiene, durability and intensive day-to-day use. Although the sauna and steam room form part of a comprehensive wellness offering that includes a swimming pool, whirlpool and fitness facilities, they remain clearly defined as independent spaces for relaxation and retreat.
DESIGN DETAIL
The sauna heater was positioned at the centre of the cabin and enclosed by a decorative rectangular heater guard. On either side, two seats with integrated backrests rise in the same design language, creating a harmonious and symmetrical composition. Behind them, a generously sized elevated reclining bench extends across the rear of the sauna, providing additional space for relaxation.
