WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
Klute Gärtner von Eden equipped this private garden in Sauerland with a biopool, with the aim of transforming the garden area close to the house into a wellness garden for a family with three children.
Ecological considerations played an important role from the start. The wooden house itself had already been built using sustainable construction methods, and the owners also wanted purely biological water purification without chemicals. This requirement was fulfilled with the Living Pool system from Biotop.
The necessary filtration technology is installed beneath the adjacent wooden deck. This also serves as a viewing platform, allowing adults to keep an eye on the children while they play in the water.
The 9 × 3.6 meter swimming pool is insulated on all sides and equipped with a polycarbonate solar roller cover that directs captured solar heat into the water. Additional water heating is provided by district heating generated from the family’s own composting system, which already supplies heat for the residential building.
For morning exercise sessions, the pool is fitted with a counter-current system. If further heating is required, a newly constructed garden sauna at the end of the pool is available.
Rich planting surrounds the pool area. Particularly striking are the large rhododendrons, whose vibrant blooms announce the arrival of summer. On the opposite side, the pool opens toward a wide view of the nearby village, where the sunset can be enjoyed from the pool deck.
In the evening, the garden and pool lighting create a special atmosphere, inviting the family to spend relaxing hours outdoors.
DESIGN DETAIL
In the evening hours, the underwater lighting of the pool blends seamlessly with the garden lighting. The color of the underwater spotlights can be individually adjusted to any tone, depending on mood and preference.
