WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
In their tranquil garden in Kulmbach, Bavaria, the homeowners fulfilled a long-held dream — transforming their aging natural pond into a modern, low-maintenance pool. After 21 years, the old swimming pond had become leaky and labor-intensive, prompting them to turn to Höhlein Schwimmbad & Wellness for a complete redesign.
The result is a sleek rectangular concrete pool measuring 9.3 by 4 meters, lined with elegant grey foil that gives the water a rich blue hue. On the house-facing side, ceramic coping stones connect seamlessly to the terrace, while the garden-facing edge is slightly elevated, creating a refined frame around the pool.
A bespoke water feature serves as a centerpiece opposite the terrace: a hand-crafted stone fountain designed by the pool specialists, allowing water to cascade gently into the pool below.
To ensure easy maintenance, the pool is equipped with an automated control system that fully manages water treatment, while a heat pump keeps the bathing temperature pleasant throughout the season. The former regeneration zone of the old pond has been reimagined as a gravel bed with polygonal stepping stones, providing a soft natural contrast and a new habitat for lush plantings.
DESIGN DETAIL
The entry staircase is clad with the same ceramic tiles used for the coping and terrace, creating visual unity. In contrast, polygonal stepping stones lead across a gravel bed — a subtle nod to the pool’s natural heritage.
