WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
This pool, realized by SHS Schmierer, extends a modern villa in Stuttgart seamlessly into the garden. It is aligned parallel to the slope on which the property sits, allowing it to integrate perfectly into the architectural interplay of different levels. A wide staircase, for example, leads from the villa’s entrance level down to the pool area, initially revealing little—giving the pool a striking element of surprise.
Naturally, the pool is also directly accessible from the house, more precisely via the master suite’s bathroom, where a door in the glass façade opens onto the pool deck. In the garden, another architectural highlight is revealed: a lushly planted light well leading down to the lower ground floor, bordered by the extended concrete wall of the pool. The formwork boards have left a distinctive pattern on this wall, making it truly unique while also lending the pool an especially impressive presence.
The skimmer pool itself is clad in rectangular tiles, perfectly color-coordinated with the paving of the pool deck to create a harmonious overall look. The same tiles also adorn the “floating” steps of the elegant entry staircase, as well as the roller shutter housing that spans the entire width of the pool. This element not only forms the second step of the staircase but also serves as a shallow-water seating area.
This garden pool was awarded the bsw Gold Award in 2024.
DESIGN DETAIL
In the evening hours, the house and pool blend into the sea of lights of the Stuttgart skyline, which can be admired from the edge of the pool. The underwater spotlights installed along the sides are by Hugo Lahme.
