WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
This property in Hitzhusen actually has its own access to a lake, which is gladly used—though mainly for paddle boating. When it came to swimming, however, the homeowners preferred crystal-clear water, which is why they commissioned Sunpools Schikora to build a pool directly in front of their terrace.
The location of the pool had already been determined by the owners themselves, and they also had very clear ideas about the overall design of the installation. The Modena one-piece pool from RivieraPool, featuring a water surface of more than ten meters in length, was framed with the same dark large-format porcelain stoneware tiles that were used for the terrace, though in a smaller format—creating a cohesive visual appearance. On the garden side, an IPE wood deck adjoins the pool, providing a comfortable surface for the loungers.
The groundwater challenges caused by the directly adjacent lake were addressed with a “white tank” construction—a waterproof reinforced concrete structure. The cavity between was filled with insulating Thermoton backfill.
To balance the stresses of a long workday with an extensive fitness program, the pool was additionally equipped with a powerful three-jet Power Swim counter-current system, which—like the water treatment system—comes from Ospa. For heating the water, an HKR heat pump connected to the home’s photovoltaic system is used alongside a solar roller cover.
At times, however, the evenings are spent much more peacefully—directly in the water, enjoying a drink in the lounge area integrated into the staircase.
DESIGN DETAIL
The swimming pool features a special staircase design that extends across the entire width of the pool. However, the stepped section itself is kept narrow along the edge—the remaining space is occupied by an L-shaped in-water seating bench.
