The Return of the European Working Groups on Swimming Pools to Italy, Three Years After the Last Milan Meeting

Acquanet hosted the first 2026 meeting: a summary of the discussions

The first TC136 meeting of the year has concluded in Milan, bringing together the members of WG3 and WG8 — the two Working Groups responsible for drafting the European technical standards for public swimming pools (including, under Italian regulation, condominium pools).

Hosted at the UNI headquarters in Milan, the meeting took place over three days (24, 25 and 26 March) and was attended — both in person and remotely — by 20 experts from France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

The local host organisation was Acquanet, the association of swimming pool manufacturers, represented by its two Italian delegates, Rossana Prola and Paolo Ferrario.

On the first day, Working Group 3 (WG3) — which recently oversaw the revision of the two EN 1069 technical standards on water slides — addressed the review of EN 17232, the standard governing aquatic playgrounds and related equipment.

The following two days were dedicated to WG8, the group tasked with revising EN 15288 (Parts 1 and 2) on the construction and operation of public swimming pools, as well as additional European technical provisions concerning pool components.

Meetings are held on a biannual basis, in spring and autumn, rotating across the participating member nations. The next meeting of the same working groups is scheduled for October in Valencia, Spain.
