A Natural Oasis in the Garden

WHAT MAKES THIS POOL SPECIAL
In the garden of this modern home in Upper Bavaria, Die Königsgütler created a garden pool that exceeds all expectations. For the homeowners, it was important that not only the pool but the entire garden would be completed before they moved in, which required close coordination with the other contractors involved.

As space for the swimming pool was limited, it was designed as an extension of the terrace, using large-format concrete slabs measuring 240 × 60 centimeters. These create a generous terrace area and allow for a floating stepping-stone path across the water surface, leading to a covered ebony wooden deck.

At the edge of the pool, the stepping stones transition into a planting area filled with ornamental grasses and varied shrubs, which frame the pool on two sides. A large Japanese maple grows from a gently shaped mound within the bed, accompanied by impressive Bavarian forest lilies.

The stepping-stone path divides the foil-lined concrete pool into two zones: one deeper section for swimming and a shallow area with decorative aquatic plants. Water purification is achieved through a natural pool filter system.

The garden is enclosed by a hornbeam hedge, creating a calm and private atmosphere. The planting concept continues onto the terrace as well, where raised beds made of coated stainless steel provide additional greenery.

The result is a cozy, natural retreat that seamlessly combines architecture, garden design, and water.

DESIGN DETAIL
Walking across the water is easy thanks to the large stepping stones. They were coordinated with the terrace paving and cleverly conceal the transition between the swimming area and the planted water zone of the natural pool.
