WHAT MAKES THIS SAUNA SPECIAL
Auroom quite literally crowned a villa in the exclusive Abama resort on Tenerife with a bespoke outdoor sauna. Positioned on the expansive rooftop terrace—the highest point of the property—it enjoys uninterrupted views across the Atlantic Ocean.
The project originated from the owners’ desire to transform the roof space into an exceptional wellness retreat rather than dedicating it solely to technical functions such as the elevator infrastructure. Conceived as a complement to the terrace pool one level below, the result is a fully customised solution in which every dimension and detail was precisely tailored to the existing architecture.
Despite the considerable structural complexity involved, the sauna now appears as a natural extension of the residence. The exterior is clad in Equitone façade panels, chosen for their clean contemporary appearance and exceptional weather resistance, making them ideally suited to the exposed rooftop location while creating a harmonious connection to the villa’s modern architectural language.
Inside, the sauna combines traditional sauna bathing with the option of infrared therapy, offering a versatile wellness experience. An ergonomically shaped lounge bench with a gently elevated leg position reflects the comfort-focused design approach and enhances relaxation.
Directly in front of the sauna, an outdoor whirlpool completes the private spa environment. Combined with the elevated setting and sweeping ocean views, the result is an extraordinary place of retreat that delivers a truly unique sauna experience.
DESIGN DETAIL
To take full advantage of the breathtaking views, the sauna was not merely placed on the rooftop terrace but elevated on a dedicated platform. Reached via three steps and a slender timber walkway, it rises above the neighbouring whirlpool, further emphasising its privileged position and uninterrupted outlook over the landscape and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
