On May 21, the conference “When a Child Drowns, Silence Is the First Warning Sign” will bring the Association together with other partners of this initiative promoted by the city.
Between 2014 and 2025, Italian swimming pools recorded 185 fatalities, with children — most often under the age of 12 — accounting for an average of 39% of all victims. The most recent case dates to last April, when a 7-year-old boy lost his life at a thermal spa in the province of Latina. Behind many of these incidents lie poorly designed facilities, fragmented regulations and a prevention culture that remains far too underdeveloped.
To address the issue with rigor and purpose, the Municipality of Jesolo has organised a conference for May 21, 2026, from 9:30 to 13:30, at the city’s Sala Consiliare. Titled “When a Child Drowns, Silence Is the First Warning Sign”, the event will bring together leading voices in the field. Among the partners is Acquanet, the Italian association of swimming pool builders, which has been working for years to raise industry standards at a national level.
Acquanet’s participation is a cornerstone of the event: the association brings to the table its expertise in fostering advanced technical knowledge, promoting best practices in facility design and maintenance, and engaging with regulatory bodies. These are precisely the issues at the heart of the conference — from water circulation and filtration to component selection and correct installation.
The sector continues to suffer from significant regulatory fragmentation, with inconsistent rules and often inadequate oversight. The Jesolo conference aims to help bridge this gap before the summer season begins.
Attendance is free. Participants may register and follow the proceedings either in person or online.
